Drone Filming FAQs
What services do Subculture Media’s Belfast Drone department provide?
We provide aerial imagery & footage services, aerial photography & cinematography, promotional advertising and sales content.
What are the advantages of using a drone?
Using a drone is the safest, fastest and cheapest method to gain imagery of an area which is difficult to access. Our drones allow you to get the bird's eye view from the tallest of buildings to largest of sites.
What image quality can I expect from drone / aerial footage?
We use high end, top of the Range DJI Drones so that we can capture a high resolution image from the same sensor for the video we capture in either HD 1920 x 1080 resolution or 4K (3840×2160 ) at various frame rates.
Is it necessary to employ a licensed drone operator for aerial photography and aerial filming?
Yes. In the UK, hiring a licensed drone operator is required for commercial work. The CAA grants us permission for aerial work, now referred to as commercial operations (PfCO) (Civil Aviation Authority). A pilot who has received a licence from the CAA has demonstrated knowledge of the rules, adherence to them, research into the area where the flight will take place, and insurance coverage in case of unforeseen circumstances.
Do you have insurance to cover the use of drones?
Yes. In order to adhere to the rules governing professional services in film and survey, we have public liability insurance. Before beginning services, we always provide proof of coverage along with our drone operators licence.
Are you able to fly your drones indoors?
Yes. When the space is deemed large enough to do so safely, our aircraft systems offer stable indoor flying.
How much time is a drone capable of flying for?
A drone can fly for between 15 and 25 minutes, depending on the weather, the type of drone we use, and whether we are filming or taking pictures. We lower the aircraft and replace the battery to resume the shoot after a battery issues a low battery signal.
Can you fly a drone in any conditions?
Due to the electronic components, multi-rotor drones cannot fly in the rain, thus we advise setting apart time for projects when the weather is unpredictable, especially when there are strong winds. We carefully evaluate the weather forecasts in advance of your job and certify whether the conditions are favourable or not. If not, we will identify alternatives and not bill you for that day.
