With the recent opening of the Grand Central Station in Belfast, Translink sought to capture the community’s reactions and excitement about the new facility. As part of their community engagement efforts, Translink organized a day for young people from various schools in the surrounding areas to come together, participate in fun, transport-themed activities, and share their thoughts on the new station. Subculture Media was tasked with creating short, engaging content to showcase these interactions and highlight the station’s role in the community.
Our objective was to create a video that reflected the vibrant community spirit and the enthusiasm of the young people who will be using the station. Through capturing their excitement and their perspectives, we aimed to show the station not only as a functional space but also as an integral part of their daily lives and a place of new adventures and opportunities.
To bring out the lively and youthful atmosphere of the day, we began with extensive B-roll footage that showcased the students engaging in activities and enjoying their time at the event. The footage highlighted moments of laughter, curiosity, and camaraderie, emphasizing social engagement and the community’s warm reception of the new station.
Our approach also involved conducting 'vox pop' style interviews with the students to capture their thoughts and excitement in a spontaneous, authentic way. We asked them what they thought about the new station, what they looked forward to, and where they might go from this starting point. The kids responded enthusiastically, sharing their genuine excitement and imagination, making the content both relatable and endearing.
The final video combined these lively B-roll shots with the voices of the students, resulting in a heartwarming and dynamic portrayal of the community's positive outlook on the Grand Central Station. This project successfully brought together elements of community, youthful energy, and local pride, reinforcing Translink's commitment to serving the people and fostering engagement within Belfast.
