To mark its 30th anniversary, The National Lottery celebrated Game Changers from across the UK, recognising inspirational people whose work has made a real and lasting difference within their communities.
We were commissioned to produce four films featuring the Northern Ireland awardees, telling each story in a way that captured not only what they had achieved, but the people and passion behind it.
One of those films followed Damian Kennedy, whose contribution to sport earned him recognition as one of Northern Ireland’s National Lottery Game Changers.
Our approach was to move beyond a traditional interview and create a short, engaging documentary that allowed Damian’s personality and story to come through naturally. We spent time with him in his own environment, combining relaxed interviews with observational footage to give audiences a genuine insight into his journey, his connection with sport and the impact he has made.
Across all four films, we used the same documentary led approach, focusing on authentic contributors, real locations and genuine moments rather than heavily scripted content. This gave each film its own personality while ensuring they worked together as part of the wider National Lottery 30 campaign.
The finished films helped celebrate four remarkable people from Northern Ireland while highlighting the wider impact National Lottery funding has had on individuals, organisations and communities over the past three decades.
For us, this was exactly the kind of project we love working on. At the centre of each film was a great human story, and our job was to find the moments that made each person unique and turn them into films that audiences could connect with.
It was fantastic to play a part in celebrating Northern Ireland’s Game Changers and help bring their stories to a wider audience.
